How to take care of Aging Skin

27 April 2020

Why You Need Anti-Aging Skin Care

Healthy skin is made up of a combination of collagen and elastin, two proteins that ensure skin feels supple and plump, brimming with elasticity that prevents sagging and droopiness. Maintaining high levels of collagen and elastin, along with following a healthy diet and lifestyle, helps keep skin looking radiant and youthful. However, after about the age of 20, our bodies slowly decrease the amount of collagen and elastin they produce, which means some signs of aging may be inevitable. Less elastin and collagen cause our skin to become more fragile and thinner as we age, and more susceptible to wrinkles and skin imperfections

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use anti-aging skin care and just give in to the inevitable. That’s because most of the triggers for aging skin are caused by external forces. The main external force that can drastically damage our skin is the sun. Going out in the sun with our skin unprotected exposes us to harmful UVA and UVB rays. Extended exposure to these rays can have detrimental effects such as premature aging, wrinkles, sunspots and, in the worst cases, skin cancer. UV exposure also can break down collagen and impair collagen production, which could cause premature aging. Another external force that can contribute to signs of aging is not actively taking care of our skin at an early age. When we are young and staying out late or rushing out the door early to get to school or work, we may not take the time to treat our skin properly by cleansing and moisturizing every day. When we don’t do that, dead skin cells and impurities can build up on the surface of our skin, dulling its natural glow and leaving us more susceptible to those signs of aging

Anti-aging skin care is crucial to keeping our complexion in the best possible condition to help ensure that those fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven tone and texture are prevented for as long as possible. But there are a lot of skin care products out there that claim to work miracles, so it can be tough knowing where to start. When you have the right foundational products, you can build an effective, results-driven anti-aging skin care routine

Get the Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine

DERMA E anti-aging skin care products are formulated with the highest-quality ingredients that nurture your complexion so it looks luminous. Committing to an appropriate skin care routine of cleansing, toning and hydrating, and following simple steps such as removing makeup every night, helps maintain a clear and vibrant complexion

One of the most important parts of your anti-aging skin care routine is sunscreen. Applying a lightweight face sunscreen like our All Sport Face Sunscreen SPF 30 (water resistant for 80 minutes) or Sun Defense Mineral Oil-Free Sunscreen Face every day, alone or under makeup, can help to protect skin from UVA/UVB rays, which may prevent unwanted effects of sun exposure. In addition to applying a face sunscreen, using a body sunscreen can help to keep you protected while having a day out in the sun. Applying an even layer of our quick-drying, water-resistant All Sport Spray Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 helps to protect skin from collagen-damaging free radicals for up to 80 minutes. Protection from sun damage using a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and reapplying when needed helps blocks those UVA/UVB rays from inflicting damage to your skin!

Prevention helps keep signs of aging at bay, but because of decreased amounts of collagen and elastin, some wrinkles and fine lines may appear naturally. However, adding anti-aging skin care products such as our Anti-Wrinkle Toner and Cleanser—which feature effective ingredients such as Retinol, Vitamin A, Bakuchiol and Glycolic Acid—can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Other ingredients such as Matrixyl®synthe’6®, Argireline and Pycnogenol®, which are featured in our Skin Restore line, are known for their anti-aging benefits. They help to reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles, softening and smoothing skin, and may help to support healthy collagen growth

Incorporating these products before signs of aging appear can help to maintain a healthy-looking complexion or restore a youthful appearance. Taking care of your skin today will help keep imperfections from forming tomorrow

Vitamin C

23 April 2020

WHY VITAMIN C IS IMPORTANT FOR SKIN

Vitamin C is a necessity for anyone who wants a strong and effective skin care regimen, as well as people who want to take preventive steps against issues such as wrinkles, dryness, and loss of firmness.
One of the main reasons why Vitamin C is important for skin is that it may support collagen production. Collagen is crucial for vibrant, youthful-looking skin. It is a protein that keeps your skin feeling firm, smooth and supple. As we age, collagen production decreases, which is where Vitamin C for the skin comes in, as it is known to help boost collagen and fight the signs of aging.
Vitamin C is also powerful because it is an antioxidant. That means it can help protect the skin from the damage that can be caused when it is exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays or environmental pollutants. That damage can take the form of fine lines, uneven tone, or a rough texture to the skin. Vitamin C may also be beneficial when it comes to retaining moisture in the skin, which is another anti-aging bonus—when skin is well-hydrated, it is plumper and firmer, and therefore less likely to show wrinkles or flakiness. The potency of Vitamin C for skin cannot be denied—it has the ability to transform the appearance of your complexion so it looks brighter, fresher and renewed

VITAMIN C SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Vitamin C goes by many different names in skin care products. They include L-ascorbic acid, ascorbyl palmitate, retinyl ascorbate and sodium ascorbyl phosphate. At DERMA E, we use two types of Vitamin C in our Vitamin C collection. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate, or Stay-C® 50, is extremely stable, which provides for maximum skin absorption. That’s important because Vitamin C can easily degrade or oxidize, which can lower its effectiveness. We also use ascorbyl palmitate, which is also known as C-Ester, because of its ability to deliver higher levels of Vitamin C to skin cells

When you are looking to purchase Vitamin C skin care products, make sure the Vitamin C is near the top of the ingredient list, which ensures it is at an effective concentration—that way, you will be able to reap its many benefits

VITAMIN C AND E SKIN CARE

It is also important to look at the list of supporting ingredients in a product. We recognize that Vitamin C for the skin is incredibly powerful, but its strength is even more robust when combined with other key ingredients. That’s why DERMA E products match up Vitamin C with high-quality hyaluronic acid, green tea, aloe vera, and other nourishing vitamins, minerals and botanicals

One of the best ingredients to pair with Vitamin C is Vitamin E. Like Vitamin C, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can boost skin health. Vitamin E is also a terrific skin hydrator, which lavishes long-lasting moisture on your complexion. Vitamin C and E skin care products can be a staple of a regimen perfect for all skin types

HOW TO USE VITAMIN C SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

One of the wonderful things about today’s advances in skin care is that Vitamin C can be incorporated into a wide array of products—you can pick and choose which ones you want to use, or rely on an entire lineup of Vitamin C-based skin care products

Cleansers can revitalize skin morning and night and can be followed by a serum that serves as both a base for your daily sunscreen and makeup products, or as the first layer of your nighttime maintenance routine. Our Vitamin C Concentrated Serum is a wonderful must-have for daily skin rejuvenation. For a double dose of mighty Vitamin C, pair the serum with our Vitamin C Renewing Moisturizer in the morning and Vitamin C Intense Night Cream in the evening. With consistent use, you will notice a more luminescent quality in your skin. And although Vitamin C can help guard your skin against sun damage, sunscreen is still a must. DERMA E combines both Vitamin C and Zinc Oxide in our super-protective Sun Defense Mineral Oil-Free Face Sunscreen, which is great for everyday use

Vitamin C is also a featured player in many specialty skin care products that aren’t used on a daily basis but instead enhance your skin through weekly or other periodic applications. Try the Vitamin C Brightening Clay Mask when you want an extra boost of radiance to the appearance of your skin

Whichever Vitamin C skin care products you buy, make sure to keep them tightly closed when not in use; Vitamin C can quickly degrade if it is exposed to light and air. Also, people with sensitive skin may want to spot test a product in an area other than the face, as Vitamin C can be irritating for some people. That is another reason why DERMA E has chosen these two forms of Vitamin C for our products—they have been found to be gentler on the skin, while not losing their effectiveness

If you are dealing with the lines, rough patches, and dry skin that can come with aging skin, never fear—Vitamin C is your complexion’s superhero, ready to save the day

The Importance of Choosing Clean Beauty in 2020

23 April 2020

FACE, HAIR, AND BODY HEALTH

From lotions to creams, perfumes to shampoos and conditioners, everything that is placed on your hair, and skin have the potential to penetrate your pores. Products containing synthetic ingredients, chemicals, sulfates, petrolatum, artificial colors, gluten, soy, and GMOs can compromise skin health and lead to clogged pores, skin irritation and more. “DERMA E is a great option for those seeking more natural skincare that can deliver similar results as more traditional, chemically driven skincare formulas.” Says Dr. Camarillo

At DERMA E, we have a longstanding commitment to high eco-ethical standards and never compromise on skin health and safety. We utilize 100% vegan, cruelty-free formulas that do not contain any of the fore-mentioned ingredients. We harness nature’s most effective ingredients formulated with the most potent natural antioxidants and targeted vitamin solutions to ensure they deliver unmatched results without the use of harmful chemicals

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATIO

When you choose clean beauty products, you choose to contribute to a cleaner planet. In recent years, chemical sunscreens washing off into the ocean has been a growing concern. We are aware of the potential these chemicals have at causing harm to our coral reef system which is why we formulate our Sun Defense Mineral Sunscreens with ingredients that are safe for our coral reef ecosystems. In addition to clean ingredients, we recognize the effect and damage that using non-recyclable products has on our environment. “DERMA E focuses on natural-derived ingredients, clean products that are not only good for your skin but are actually good for the environment and for our future generations.” Says Dr. Fardin. Our packaging components are recyclable, and we offset 100% of conventional electricity use with wind energy certificates. Our commitment to clean beauty is not just to our customers, but also our planet

WHERE TO START

We understand that choosing to make any change, especially when it comes to daily habits can be difficult. Luckily, at DERMA E we make it easy for you to effortlessly choose clean beauty when you use our clean beauty solutions. “They’re all-natural, they’re vegan, they are cruelty-free, and they work!” Says Dr. Gerstner. Start incorporating clean beauty into your beauty routine by using our recyclable natural products that don’t harm you, or the environment. Up-cycle and recycle products that you no longer use, and don’t settle for anything less than clean beauty in 2020!

Earth Day 2020

23 April 2020

Refuse to Use

We recognize our responsibility to our community, customers and our environment which is why we refuse to use over 2,500 ingredients that are harmful to either our person or environment. Our refuse to use list has grown over the past 35 years. At just over 2,500, we ban more than 1,100 additional chemicals not banned by EU law. We pride ourselves on being always soy free, cruelty free, GMO free, gluten free, sulphate, paraben, petrolatum, mineral oil, and artificial color free

Sustainability Efforts

Here at DERMA E, we are very passionate about living a sustainable lifestyle and making constant improvements in this area. Currently, all our packaging (except for our foil packs) is 100% recyclable and our facial wipes are 100% biodegradable. We do our best to avoid fancy frills or added decoration that builds up in landfills, taking years to decompose. We also only use safe and renewable resources for our products to promote a healthier ecological future

Positive Energy

For over the past ten years, DERMA E’s facilities have been manufacturing wind power and working on reducing our environmental impact by offsetting 100% of the conventional electricity we use with the help of wind energy certificates. This measure supports our continuing effort to completely offset carbon dioxide emissions and greenhouse gasses

Reef Safe

DERMA E currently offers reef safe sunscreens products made with non-nano, chemical-free, mineral Zinc Oxide which has been tested to be a superior natural skincare ingredient. Our Ultra Sheer Mineral Body Sunscreen Mist SPF 30, Sun Defense Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Body, Sun-Defense Mineral Oil Free Sunscreen Baby, and Sun Defense Mineral Oil-Free Sunscreen Face are all reef safe

Giving Back

DERMA E strives to make positive changes in both our local and global communities. That’s why every purchase you make helps contribute to the organizations we proudly support including Keep America Beautiful and Vitamin Angels.
Closing the Loop
To effectively keep our environmental footprint at a minimum, DERMA E has been manufacturing with wind power for over a decade, offsetting 100% of conventional electricity use. In the coming years, DERMA E is committing to 100% sustainable packaging at retail and continued research on 100% PCR plastic alternatives, ultimately closing the loop on single-use plastics. When it is necessary to use plastic, DERMA E sources only 100% recyclable plastic and are now actively researching (PCR) post-consumer recyclable plastic alternatives
